What the 5090 actually buys you
Not access. An RTX 5080 will run everything on this page's recommended games list, and run it well at 4K. The 5090 is a different proposition: 4K at high refresh rather than around 60, ray tracing at native resolution in the heaviest titles, and 32GB of video memory for work that needs it.
The price rises considerably more steeply than the frame rate does. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the right card for a narrow set of reasons and an expensive one for anything else. If none of those reasons applies to you, our RTX 5080 gaming PCs will do what you want for a good deal less.
Who these suit
High refresh 4K, where the card has to produce frames fast enough to fill a 144Hz or faster panel at full resolution rather than keeping a 60Hz screen satisfied.
Demanding simulation. Two of the builds here are specified for flight and racing sims, with 64GB of system memory behind the card, because those titles load large amounts of data and run heavy logic every frame.
And creative work. Video editing, 3D rendering and large project files all use video memory directly, and this is where the 32GB stops being a specification line and starts being the reason to buy.
Choosing the processor
At 4K the graphics card does nearly all the work in games, so the processor here is not what sets your frame rate. Buy it for what the machine does when it is not playing.
X3D chips carry a much larger cache and raise frame rates in games specifically, which suits a machine built mainly to play. Higher core count processors do more for rendering, encoding and compiling. Our guide to X3D explained covers where each one wins.
The screen and the power supply
A 5090 paired with a 60Hz panel wastes most of what you have bought. This is the band where the monitor needs to be chosen with the machine rather than after it, and our monitor guide covers how refresh rate and resolution interact with what the card can drive.
Power is the other thing people get wrong. These cards draw sharp transient spikes well above their sustained figure, and an undersized supply shuts the machine down under load rather than slowing gracefully. Ours are specified with that headroom built in. If you are speccing your own in the PC configurator, our guide on what power supply wattage you need covers the numbers.
Every machine here is hand built and tested in the UK with a 3 year warranty as standard.
RTX 5090 gaming PC FAQs
Is an RTX 5090 worth it over a 5080?
Only for specific reasons. It does not open games a 5080 cannot run. What it buys is 4K at high refresh rather than around 60, ray tracing at native resolution in the heaviest titles, and the extra video memory for creative work. The price rises more steeply than the frame rate does.
What do these machines suit?
4K at high refresh, demanding simulation, and creative work that uses the memory: rendering, encoding, large project files. Two of the builds here are specified for flight and racing sims, which lean on the processor and memory more than most games do.
Which processor should I pick?
X3D chips raise frame rates in games specifically, so they suit a machine that mainly plays. Higher core count processors suit rendering, encoding and streaming. At 4K the card does nearly all the work in games, so buy the processor for what the machine does besides playing. Our guide to X3D explained covers the trade.
What power supply does a 5090 need?
More than the rated figure suggests, because these cards draw sharp transient spikes well above their sustained draw. An undersized supply will shut the machine down under load rather than degrade gracefully. These are specified with that headroom built in. Our guide on what power supply wattage you need sets out the numbers.
How long does delivery take?
These are built to order and dispatched in 6 to 8 working days, with every system stress tested before it is boxed.
