ABOUT WORLD OF WARCRAFT

World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the Warcraft fantasy universe, World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events of the previous game in the series, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

Since launch, World of Warcraft has had nine major expansion packs: The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), Mists of Pandaria (2012), Warlords of Draenor (2014), Legion (2016), Battle for Azeroth (2018), Shadowlands (2020), and Dragonflight (2022). Three further expansions, The War Within (2024), Midnight, and The Last Titan, were announced in 2023.

Similar to other MMORPGs, the game allows players to create a character avatar and explore an open game world in third- or first-person view, exploring the landscape, fighting various monsters, completing quests, and interacting with non-player characters or other players. The game encourages players to work together to complete quests, enter dungeons and engage in player versus player (PvP) combat, however, the game can also be played solo without interacting with others. The game primarily focuses on character progression, in which players earn experience points to level up their character to make them more powerful and buy and sell items using in-game currency to acquire better equipment, among other game systems.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING YOUR WORLD OF WARCRAFT GAMING PC

When choosing a gaming PC for World of Warcraft (WoW), there are several key considerations to ensure you have the best experience:

PROCESSOR

WoW is not particularly CPU-intensive, but having a modern processor can improve performance, especially in areas with many players.

For World of Warcraft, having a good PC processor can significantly enhance your gaming experience. While WoW can technically run on lower-end CPUs, the game’s performance, especially in areas with many players or during complex scenes, will benefit from a stronger processor. This is particularly important if you’re interested in participating in activities that demand more from your system, like raiding or PVP.

In summary, while you don’t need the latest and greatest processor to play WoW, investing in a good CPU can provide a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.

GRAPHICS CARD

A good GPU is essential for rendering the game’s visuals smoothly. The level of GPU you need will depend on the resolution and settings you want to play at.

The game’s system requirements are not extremely high, but a better GPU will provide a smoother and more visually appealing experience.

If you’re looking to play the game at 1080p on the highest settings, a GeForce RTX 3060 will easily produce over 60fps.

Ultimately, the best GPU for you will depend on your budget, the resolution you plan to play at, and whether you intend to play other more demanding games as well.

RAM

For World of Warcraft, 16GB of RAM is generally recommended for optimal performance. This amount of memory will allow the game to run smoothly and handle its complex environments, especially if you’re multitasking or running other applications in the background.

While 8GB of RAM is the minimum requirement to play WoW, having 16GB ensures that you have enough memory to avoid slowdowns or crashes2. However, if you’re planning to do heavy multitasking, stream your gameplay, or use high-end graphics settings, then 32GB of RAM could provide additional headroom, although it’s not necessary for WoW alone1.

In summary, go for 16GB if WoW is your primary focus, but consider 32GB if you’re aiming for a more future-proof build or if you have other demanding uses for your PC.

STORAGE

An SSD (Solid State Drive) is highly recommended for playing World of Warcraft (WoW), particularly for the game’s expansion, Shadowlands. Blizzard has stated that an SSD is a minimum system requirement for this expansion. While a traditional hard disk drive (HDD) can still run the game, using an SSD will provide a much better experience with faster load times and smoother performance during gameplay.

An SSD’s quick read and write speeds are particularly beneficial for games like WoW, which need to quickly load and render large game worlds and assets. So, if you’re looking to upgrade your system for WoW or choose a new one, including an SSD would be a wise choice to enhance your gaming experience.
