What PC do I need for Racing Sims?

To get the best experience when playing racing sims, you need a computer that can process quickly and render graphics smoothly and without stuttering. You should look for a quad core processor at minimum (though you’ll notice our recommended systems start from hex-core to give you the best possible experience) and pair it with a great, dedicated graphics card. We use the latest 40-series graphics cards in our racing sim systems to ensure ultra-realism, putting you right in the driver’s seat, every time.

Make sure you don’t skimp on memory. A good amount of RAM will ensure your race goes smoothly and a fast SSD will greatly improve loading and response times. Our recommended systems start with 32GB of DDR5 memory, all the way up to 192GB for super charged performance, paired with either a 1TB or 2TB, lightning-fast SSD.

Lastly, consider your case and motherboard options, as there’s a good chance that you are going to want multiple peripherals and accessories and your system needs the USB ports to support that.

What GPU is best for sim racing?

Whilst the recommended specs for the most popular sim racing games are quite low, we usually recommend taking recommended specs with a pinch of salt. These specs may let you play the game, but you might not always get the best experience. We recommend going for a GPU from the RTX 40-series and going for as much VRAM as you can – this becomes especially important if you’re playing at higher resolutions or playing across multiple monitors. This will keep your system performing amazingly in the future, plus you’ll be able to take advantage of AI technology and ray-tracing.

Our recommended sim racing systems start from the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of VRAM, and go up to the RTX 4090 with 24GB of VRAM.

What peripherals do I need for sim racing?

If you’re just starting out with a sim racing set-up, it’s completely possible to game with just a great PC, keyboard and mouse but the likelihood is, as you play more, you’re going to feel limited when racing against other players and you’re going to lose out on a level of immersion that can be part of the enjoyment.

As you become more serious, it’s likely that you’re going to want to get a hold of some peripherals that will enhance your experiment. These may include a dedicated racing wheel and pedals, additional monitors, a virtual reality headset or even a full racing seat or cockpit setup.

When it comes to choosing a monitor for your simulator setup, you should think about whether you want a curved or flat screen. A lot of sim racers like a curved screen because it provides a more realistic field of vision and help with immersion, but the trade-off is often that the image clarity is not as good. The other option is a flat screen monitor which can be great for image quality, but often, to enhance the immersion, sim racing players will end up with a triple-screen setup which can drastically affect the cost of your setup. Lastly, pay close attention to the FPS you will be able to play at. 60FPS is the absolute minimum for sim racing, but for the best experience you will want to be playing at least at 120FPS. Check out our monitors for great options to suit all budgets.

How much RAM do I need for racing simulators?

For demanding simulations, you are going to need at least 16GB of RAM to ensure smooth running. Our recommended systems use a minimum of 32GB of RAM, making them ultra-quick, and able to handle anything you might throw at it.

Is CPU or GPU more important for sim racing?

Both are important! Having a powerful, multi-core CPU is going to ensure smooth gameplay, effortless multi-tasking and accurate simulation, and the GPU is going to be responsible for rendering your graphics and textures, determining your frame rate, and providing a stunning and immersive experience.

Whilst investing in a great GPU is going to make sure you can enjoy beautifully rendered and immersive sim racing, it’s important to balance both the CPU and GPU.
