When it comes to delivering high-quality, attention grabbing streaming or content, your microphone shouldn't be an afterthought. With high quality, dedicated streaming mics from brands like Elgato, MSI and Logitech, Fierce has got you covered to ensure your voice is heard above the noise.
There's nothing that puts an audience off faster than low quality, crackly audio, so ensure you stand out as a professional by considering a few things when buying a streaming microphone:
Sample rate
Sample rate refers to the rate at which the analog signal being sent from the microphone is being sampled per second and is measured in hertz (Hz) or Kilohertz (kHz). A sample rate of 44.1kHz (which is the minimum required to capture the full range of human hearing) means the sound is being sampled 44,100 times per second. For professional quality audio recording, you will usually see sample rates of 48kHz and 96KHz.
Microphone sensitivity
Microphone sensitivity is how good the mic is at picking up sounds. A highly sensitive microphone will pick up softer sounds easier than a lower sensitivity microphone. A microphone sensitivy reading of 36 (±3) dB means that microphone has a sensitivity of 36dB, give or take 3dB, and indicates a fairly sensitive microphone.
Microphone frequency
The Microphone frequency number is the range of sound frequencies that a given microphone can capture and reproduce. 20Hz-20,000Hz is a good range for a gaming microphone as it ensures the microphone can capture a full range of sounds, from high frequency to low.
Bit rate
The bit rate when talking about streaming microphones refers to the amount of data processed per second during audio recording or streaming. Higher bit rates generally mean better audio quality because more data is captured, resulting in more detailed sound.
