CHOOSING YOUR THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT PC
When choosing or building a PC specifically to run The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered (or next-gen enhanced version), your target hardware depends heavily on whether you plan to run Ray Tracing, your desired resolution, and target frame rates.
Some of the parts that you should prioritise when building your The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gaming PC include:
Cities like Novigrad and Oxenfurt put a massive load on the CPU due to heavy crowd AI and pathfinding.
Avoid older quad-core CPUs. Look for modern 6-core or 8-core processors (e.g., AMD Ryzen 5 7600X / Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Intel Core i5-13600K/14600K) to keep frametimes consistent and eliminate stuttering in crowded hubs.
Ray Tracing Off: The game is moderately demanding. Mid-range cards like the RTX 5060, RX 9060 XT, or Arc B580 comfortably handle 1080p and 1440p Ultra settings at high frame rates.
Ray Tracing On: The global illumination, ray-traced reflections, and ambient occlusion added in the updated engine are extremely heavy. To run RT smoothly at 1440p or 4K, target a higher end NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPU to take full advantage of DLSS Frame Generation (DLSS 3/4.5).
VRAM Caution: Aim for at least 8GB to 12GB of VRAM. RT effects combined with 4K texture mods or high visual settings will quickly saturate 8GB on higher resolutions.
While 12GB is the bare minimum and 16GB is recommended, opting for 32GB DDR4 or DDR5 ensures background applications (Discord, web browsers) won't cause memory paging stutters during long gaming sessions.
Mechanical Hard Drives (HDDs) will cause heavy asset pop-in, micro-stutters, and extended load times.
Ensure you install the game on a fast NVMe SSD with at least 70 GB to 100 GB of free space to accommodate the base game and expansions.
