Some of the parts that you should prioritise when building your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl Gaming PC include:
PROCESSOR
This is one of the biggest considerations for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
The game can become CPU-limited, particularly in towns and settlements where there are lots of NPCs, AI activity and world simulation.
For a new gaming PC, I'd therefore avoid spending almost the entire budget on the graphics card while pairing it with a weak CPU.
Aim for a modern 6-core CPU as a reasonable starting point or a modern 8-core CPU for a stronger long-term build.
Also consider a gaming-focused CPU with strong single-thread performance if you're targeting high FPS.
GRAPHICS
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has demanding lighting, environments, textures and effects.
Open-world games on UE5 consume massive amounts of Video RAM. Aim for at least 12GB of VRAM (e.g., RTX 5070 or RX 9070 GRE) for 1440p gaming. Standard 8GB cards will struggle with high-resolution texture packs.
Modern upscaling is essential to keep frame rates steady. Modern Nvidia (DLSS 4 Frame Generation) and AMD (FSR 4) cards significantly boost FPS in hardware-heavy areas.
RAM
Although 16GB is officially enough for the lower tiers, GSC specifies 32GB dual-channel RAM for High and Epic configurations.
For a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2-focused PC, 32GB is the sweet spot.
We suggest 32GB (2 × 16GB) rather than 16GB, if the budget allows, as this also gives Windows and other background applications more breathing room.
STORAGE
The official requirements specify a 160GB SSD.
Don't build around a traditional mechanical hard drive for this game.
We recommend 1TB NVMe SSD minimum for a new gaming PC, or 2TB NVMe SSD if your budget allows.
Remember that the game itself requires around 160GB of available storage, and you'll want plenty of additional space for Windows, updates and other games.
