CHOOSING YOUR ELDEN RING PC
When choosing a PC for Elden Ring (and its expansion Shadow of the Erdtree), performance comes down to target resolution, stability during intense fights, and understanding the game's engine quirks.
Some of the parts that you should prioritise when building your Elden Ring Gaming PC include:
PROCESSOR
Having a good processor is important for playing Elden Ring, as it is a demanding game that requires sufficient processing power to run smoothly. The minimum and recommended processor requirements ensure that the game’s graphics, physics, and overall gameplay mechanics are processed efficiently without causing lag or other performance issues.
Recommended (1080p / 60 FPS): Intel Core i5-12400F, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, or newer mid-range chips.
Ideal (High Stability / 1440p / 4K): Modern 6-core or 8-core CPUs (e.g., AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Intel Core Ultra 5-250KF Plus). CPUs with large L3 caches (like AMD’s 3D V-Cache lineup) excel at smoothing out open-world traversal stutters.
These CPUs are well-suited for gaming and should provide a smooth Elden Ring experience, ensuring minimal lag or stuttering during gameplay. The choice of CPU will depend on your budget and the level of performance you’re seeking.
Meeting or exceeding the recommended requirements will provide a better gaming experience, with improved frame rates and smoother performance during intense gameplay moments. So, if you’re looking to enjoy Elden Ring to its fullest, investing in a good processor is definitely worthwhile.
GRAPHICS
To fully appreciate the world of Elden Ring and its detailed aesthetics, a powerful graphics card is recommended. While the game’s hardware requirements are not excessively demanding, to experience the game at its best, especially at higher resolutions and settings, a more advanced GPU is beneficial.
For instance, the Nvidia RTX 5050 is considered an excellent choice for Elden Ring, providing stable performance at 60fps on maximum video settings at 1080p. However, its performance dips when running the game with Raytracing and at higher resolutions at maximum settings.
On the other hand, a graphics card such as the RTX 3050, can still offer a satisfactory gaming experience on medium to high settings in 1080p resolution. It’s not recommended for 1440p or 4K, but in 1080p, it delivers a stable fps on good visual settings, which is enough for an enjoyable playthrough.
So, if you’re aiming for a smooth and visually stunning gaming experience with Elden Ring, investing in a good graphics card like the RTX 5060 or a higher performance GPU would be ideal.
RAM
16 GB DDR4/DDR5 is plenty for the base game and DLC.
16GB RAM:
32 GB is ideal if you stream, keep browser tabs/Discord open in the background, or run graphic enhancement mods.
STORAGE
While an SSD is not a strict requirement for playing Elden Ring, it is strongly recommended for performance benefits.
Installing Elden Ring on a traditional Spinning Hard Disk Drive (HDD) leads to long loading screens and noticeable in-game stuttering as new areas load.
Budget at least 80 GB – 100 GB of free SSD space to fit the base game (~60 GB) plus Shadow of the Erdtree (~15 GB) and future patches.
