Ruined King: Everything we know so far:

The League of Legends universe isn't confined to a single game anymore. Ruined King, a League of Legends story will be the first single-player game in the League of Legends universe. It very recently got it's first gameplay trailer, which you can check out above.League of legends ruined king, Ruined King a league of legends story, league of legends ruined king gameplay

We've already had time to enjoy the card game Legends of Runeterra, and more games in new genres for the series have also been produced. Most recently, League of Legends: Wild Rift was released for Mobile devices!

The trailer debuted during The Game Awards 2020 and gives fans a brief preview of combat and characters, and even a quick glimpse of the Ruined King himself.

The trailer begins with scenes of Bilgewater, as a narrator explains a few things about the town to us. Using a team of playable league of legends champions, players will get the chance to take on Bilgewater and whatever evil is encapsulating it. Included in this rag-tag team is Illoi, Miss Fortune, Braum, Pyke, Yasuo and Ahir, which will give us players a strong mix of League of Legends most popular champions, as well as a few (Illoi we're looking at you) some of the limelight.

What the Trailer tells us:

According to the gameplay trailer, you'll gather your team, taking three champions with you into battle at one time, to explore the town. You'll also have access to caves and the seas around Bilgewater.

When combat is initiated, the camera angle will transition from overhead to a side view. Combat will be turn-based and each character, will of course, have different abilities they can use to assist party members or damage the enemies.

As for the specific story itself, that still remains mostly a mystery. The gameplay trailer's narrator appears to be non-the-wiser either, as they mention what exactly brought the team together.

In the final moments of the trailer, the Ruined King himself is revealed. This in itself is interesting, as the Ruined King is a character from League of Legends lore, but has so far never been explored in the game or any related games.League of legends ruined king, Ruined King a league of legends story, league of legends ruined king gameplay, The Ruined King game what we know so far

Ruined king was originally set to come out in early 2021, however the development team, Airship Syndicate has chosen to delay the game a bit to later in 2021. Airship Syndicate began the partnership with Riot through its Riot Forge Publishing Program.

Platforms:

Whilst League of Legends was PC exclusive for years, and recently expanded for more Mobile platforms with Wild Rift, Ruined King will be on every major home console from the start. That means Ruined King will be available across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch right off the bat.

Next-gen console versions of the game are also in the works for both PS4 and Xbox Series X, although these versions will subsequently not be ready for the initial launch of Ruined King. League of legends ruined king, Ruined King a league of legends story, league of legends ruined king gameplay

Riot has confirmed however, that PS4 and Xbox One players can upgrade to the next-gen version of the game for free once the option is available.

Ruined King Developer:

As previously mentioned, the developer of Ruined king is not completely in-house as with previous League of Legends titles. Instead, it's part of a new initiative called Riot Forge. This is a publishing branch of Riot games that is in charge of creating spin-off games and content with other developers based around the League of Legends universe.

Airship Syndicate is a Texan developer known for previous titles like Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Darksiders Genesis, are the team working on Ruined King.

Other games are currently being produced under Riot Forge. Included is an action-platformer from Double Stallion called Conv/rgence: A League of Legends Story.

Gameplay:

Not much was revealed in terms of gameplay from Riot Forge or Airship Syndicate until the gameplay trailer released. However Riot Forge previously described Ruined King as a single-player, turn-based RPG that highlights quite a bit of League of Legends lore. The gameplay trailer has revealed that the game mostly plays out from a top-down perspective until you enter combat.

You do not need to know how to play League of Legends to play Ruined king. This appears to be quite intentional by Riot, as they are hoping to introduce new players to the world of Runeterra with games like Ruined king.

If you want to get a feel for the type of content Airship Syndicate produces, you can check out this video of Battle Chasers: Nightwar below:

Story / Lore:

While exact story details are being kept vague, Riot has confirmed which areas and champions that players will see in Ruined King. The game takes place in Bligewater. Bilgewater is described by the developers as a "port town that is home to sea monster hunters, dock gangs, and smugglers".

We'll also be able to visit the Shadow Isles, which is a more mystical area that's covered in a toxic Blac Mist.

Set after the events of Burning Tides (a set of Lore released by Riot, featuring  Gangplank, Graves and Twisted Fate), you'll journey bravely into the ever-creeping Black Mist.

Additional League of Legends champions may appear in future, however, even if they aren't added, Ruined King should delve into these characters and the lore much more than League of Legends itself has!
