Respawn entertainment announced last night that ''six crucial weeks'' have been added to the development of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the much awaited follow up to 2019's Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. The game now has a confirmed release date of April 28th, and is set to be launched for PC, Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5.

Originally lined up for March 17th, Survivor will share a release date with Dambuster Studios' action RPG sequel Dead Island 2, which will lead to an interesting sales race for two sought after titles.

In a tweet last night, Respawn Entertainment's Stig Asmussen outlined their reasoning for the delay.

On the same day, EA also announced the cancellation of their Apex Legends and Battlefield mobile ports, alongside the closure of Industrial Toys, the studio working on Battlefield mobile. EA have emphasised that support and new seasons for Battlefield 2042 will continue as well as starting development on a new chapter in the Battlefield franchise.

The first Star Wars Jedi game attracted over 20 million players, and was praised for its exceptionally realistic graphics and intuitive combat system. The follow up promises to bring real time ray tracing as well as super-fast load times using the SSD's of the new systems. Gameplay mechanics promise five distinct combat stances reflective of Ghosts of Tsushima's (2020) combat style and new ways to traverse the Star Wars universe.

Cameron Monaghan, the actor behind protagonist Cal Kestis has said that this sequel will offer a ''deeper and darker story'' that is accessible for Star Wars fans and people new to the series.
