Two years after the launch of Hitman 3, the final chapter in the World of Assassination Trilogy, IO Interactive have revealed the cinematic launch trailer for the new Freelancer mode.

Hitman Freelancer, which is scheduled for release January 26th, is set some time after the explosive Hitman 3 Epilogue. Set to be one of the biggest single player updates in the game's history, the new mode includes a customisable safehouse for Agent 47, as well as a new style of strategic planning.

Gone are the days where 47 is supplied with the necessary goods for carrying out assassinations. In Freelancer mode, the Hitman must instead prepare his contracts through his stash and by encountering NPC's that will act as a help or hindrance.

The new clip provides scarce details about the new game mechanics, but gives the player an insight into a new cryptic crime syndicate and their seemingly impenetrable world influence. Agent 47's handler Diana Burnwood returns once again with her iconic voice-over instructions.

For the new campaign, the player will return once again to 19 of the 22 locations in the series, but this time must choose which order to play them. After each respective mission 47 will return to his safehouse, keeping in mind that if he leaves his weapons somewhere in the game world, they may be gone for good.

"Hitman: Freelancer puts the strategic planning of a mission into the hands of the player. The game mode relies on randomized elements, that are rolled independently of each other. The game mode gives the player all available information, but there’s no guarantee that an objective, for instance, is possible when on the mission''
