The Triple-I initiative showcase happened recently and dropped some exciting news for gaming enthusiasts and lovers of indie gaming – particularly if you’re a fan of deckbuilders, rogue-likes and RPG’s, of which, there’s going to be plenty to keep you busy! So, assuming you’re not yet fed up of hearing the term ‘procedurally generated’, what are some of the most interesting announcements that have been made?

Slay the Spire 2

Certainly the most interesting announcement (for us at least) was Slay the Spire 2. MegaCrit have dropped a dark looking story animation and also given us a little sneak peak of new challenger to the Spire, ‘The Necrobinder’, as well as a brief look at some of the new enemies that you can see on the games Steam page now.

Slay the Spire 2 has been completely rewritten on a new engine, and is promising new characters, new sets of cards and archetypes, and a whole lot more fun.

We sank hundreds of hours into the first game (and hundreds more watching baalor runs and tutorials), so honestly, this announcement couldn’t be more exciting, and we can’t wait for the 2025 early access and even more hours lost trying out every combination of cards.

Wizard of Legend 2

Much loved, spell-slinging, dungeon crawler, ‘Wizard of Legend’, is getting a sequel. The first game looked beautiful with its classic SNES vibe and had a lot to get your teeth into, thanks to the innovative and fast paced, spell combo-ing based combat. The sequel looks like quite an advancement with its introduction of 3D-visuals, but the combat looks just as frenetic as always.

The Rogue Prince of Persia

After the well-received foray into ‘side-scrolling, platformer with Metroidvania elements’ that was ‘Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’, we are getting a new entry into the Prince of Persia franchise. The Rogue Prince of Persia is apparently an accessible rogue-lite that combines the fluidity of movement from previous instalments with ‘Arkham-style agile combat.’ It’s a genre-mashup that has certainly piqued our interest with the stylish reveal trailer.

Beyond these announcements, we’re excited for some new modes and updates for great games like Risk of Rain 2 and Darkest Dungeon 2. It’s certainly a great time for fans of rogue-likes and rogue-lites. If you’re new to that whole genre though, we would definitely recommend picking up Slay the Spire, which is currently 75% off on Steam.

The system requirements for most of these games is low, so if you’re looking at getting into them, the good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a PC that can handle them. Take a look at our system configurator or our preconfigured systems starting from around £500.
